Exploration #54

For school our instructor wants us to complete explorations of the world. Exploration #54 is The Language of Trees. It involves collecting various parts of trees and displaying them in some way. In class we had 15 minutes outside to do so. I found six different types of branches that had fallen along the outskirts of the field beside the school building.

I took a picture but Blogger is being silly right now. I will upload it later.

Exploration #28

For school our instructor wants us to complete explorations of the world. Exploration #28 is Blind Observation. It involves describing objects through just your sense of touch. In class we paired up and went outside, closing our eyes and letting our partner guide us to objects. At first I didn't trust them, especially when we were going in the direction of the stairs, but I relaxed and let her lead me by the hand after a while. The following is what I was given to touch:

#1. The handle/side of a vehicle. Possibly a car.
#2. A beaded bracelet.
#3. A dandelion stem/flower.

Pin Up Scar

For school we did a drawing challenge that required us to draw a pin-up girl (or boy) as a cartoon character. I chose to do Scar from The Lion King.

Capybara Dragon

A little drawing challenge for us at school was to take an animal and turn it into a dragon. My favourite animal is the capybara, so I made this. I figured he would use his dragon powers to get the best watermelons for himself. An added challenge this term was to draw it using Flash. I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Exploration #61

For school our instructor wants us to complete explorations of the world. Exploration #61 is Footprints. It involves recording, through sketches or pictures, different footprints that you see in mud, snow, around water, etc. I made this exploration up because none of the ones in the book matched what I wanted to do. The following is all the pictures I took this past winter of different animal footprints in the snow and the animals who made them.

Exploration #55

For school our instructor wants us to complete explorations of the world. Exploration #55 is Ways to Transform an Everyday Experience. It involves doing anything you can to change a regular occurrence in your life, to make it different or more interesting, and recording the experience. The following are my notes from May 5, 2014:

I walked to school today with one eye closed. My depth perception was weird. I couldn't see one side of the road (don't worry, I was on the sidewalk). Stairs were particularly difficult. It took more concentration than I thought it would not to open my other eye.

Hippotato

This is an idea of mine that has been bouncing around for quite some time and I finally got a reason to use him (a drawing jam for school). This is a species of hippo that has the size and appearance of a potato. They enjoy eating chives, warming themselves in the sun, and taking buttery baths. The age of a hippotato can be determined by the number of eye sprouts an individual has. Occasionally they will be mistaken for a real potato, and certain individuals have been spotted with fork marks in their hides.

Cake the Cat

In Clean Up class the challenge was to digitally draw something step-by-step to create the illusion of it being drawn like a comic book. Mostly, other people drew their characters but I chose to adapt a picture that I had taken of my cat a while ago. He just looks so epic.

Drawing Jam #8

Drawing Jam #8 for Animatic class. The challenge was to draw a character to fit into a certain given background. The extra challenge was to draw them in the style of Teen Titans GO. I chose the carousel and made the little guy have lots of fun on his day off. This was a fun and easy exercise.

Drawing jam #7 for Animatic class. The challenge was to draw your classmates in the style of a certain show. I chose Phineas & Ferb. I really enjoyed drawing all of my good friends like this and I think it was a great exercise.

Triclops Ballerina

This is just a personal thing I did to relax and try out my new tablet. I coloured my friend's drawing digitally. It was nice to do something for me.

Drawing Jam #6

Drawing Jam #6 for Animatics class. We had to choose one piece of clothing out of several given to us and create a character to suit it. I chose the jacket/vest/shirt ensemble. The added challenge was to draw them in the style of How to Train your Dragon concept art. I enjoyed making this guy and I recommend a similar project to anyone interested in a fun challenge.
