Cold Aleks

A self-portrait I did for fun the other day.

Blind Contour Illustrations

I have a lot of fun doing blind contours in Life Drawing class (drawing the model without looking at your paper), so I decided to colour a couple of them tonight to have fun and relax after working all day. They're so cool to look at.

Witch Garden Layout

This is the layout I created for my magic spell animation, where a little witch enchants a teapot to pour her some tea. Rough done in blue pencil, cleaned up in Flash, coloured in Photoshop. I really like this one.

Savannah Repeat Pan Layout

This is a horizontal repeat pan I drew last year for a run cycle. The characters are a lion and a gazelle, so I made a nice Savannah for them. Rough is pencil and paper, cleanup and paint were done in Photoshop.

Heavy Push Animation

This heavy push was animated last term. We were given the assignment and had to use the same character as the heavy lift to pull it off. Drawn traditionally, scanned in.

Heavy Lift Animation

This heavy lift was animated last term. We were given the assignment and needed to create a character and scenario to fit it. Drawn traditionally and scanned in.

If you are interested, and animatic that includes this scene can be found here:

Unbelievable Dialogue Animation

This animation was done early in the fall term, 2014. The line of dialogue: "Now, that is unbelievable" was given to us and we had to create a scene from it. I enjoy doing lip-syncs quite a bit.

The full animatic, which includes this animation with sound (at 9 sec), can be found here:

Fat Skip Animation

This animation was done soon after the fall term had began, in 2014. The goal was to animate a fat character skipping rope. Drawn traditionally and scanned in.

Flash Walk Animation

This animation was done in Flash last term, to let us practice using character comps. I found the basics fairly easy to understand, and wish to work with this program more in the future.

Mushroom Jump Animation

Here is a rough animation that I did last year, showing a character jumping over a gap. We had very little time for this one, which is why there aren't any extra details. Drawn traditionally and scanned in.

Dog Walk Animation

Here is a rough animation of a dog walking, done last year. Traditionally drawn and then scanned.

"Linger" Animatic Storyboards

Last term in Story Reel class our final project was to create an animatic with completely free reign of the story. The only requirement was that it needed to be a minute or less. Inspired by the passing of my beloved cat, I set out to show the effect a lost pet can have. The idea was to show the cat's ghost interacting with the woman and the environment without leaving any imprint. The audience is not intended to know the cat is dead until the final scene, where it becomes clear why the woman never acknowledges them, or why they don't cast a shadow. I am pleased with how it turned out, and I intend to add a few small revisions to strengthen the piece further.

For now, here is the link to the completed animatic:

3D Layout: Cupboard Under the Stairs

This layout was made by me in 3DS Max last term, after three months of various tutorials. It is the first thing I have ever made by myself in 3D, and I don't think it turned out that bad. The idea was to create an unusual living space, and I immediately thought of Harry Potter's cupboard under the stairs. Was completed in two weeks of classes (6 hours).

Hands and Feet

Some hands and feet from this week's Life Drawing classes. This model in particular has really interesting hands, from working all day in a manual job and breaking her left index finger a long time ago. I'm amazed to look at these and see the improvement from even just last year.

Life Drawing: Term 4

These life drawings were done last term, at the end of 2014. They are either done in conte or marker. The times taken were 1.5 hours, 2 minutes, and ten minutes.

Various Animal Sketches

These sketches were done in the summer of 2013, both from real life and from pictures. They consist of various wild and domestic animals I was interested in at the time. I enjoy drawing animals very much.

Cat and Dog Sketches

These sketches were done in the summer of 2013, both from real life and from pictures taken by me. They consist of my three cats (at the time) and a friend's dog. I enjoy drawing animals very much.
