Gladiator Character Line-up

 

For Character Design class we had to turn all of the characters that we created this term (with revisions added) into a themed line-up. I chose Roman gladiators. This was a lot of fun to research and draw and I'm very proud with how it turned out.

4-Legged Creature Profile Sheet

 For Character Design class we had to make a four-legged animal (similar to a horse) with which to do a walk cycle later in the year. This is Mishka the Bactrian camel. She is very pretty and sassy and loves her saddle. In the end, I like her.

I would like to thank Lauren Doucet for the great help in cleaning up the line-art. I like this way much better!

Mixed Creature Profile Sheet

 For Character Design class we had to make a creature made out of two different animals. I chose an alligator and an aye-aye. This is Mike. He was inspired by my instructor from last year who pokes his head in the class from time to time. Overall, I had fun designing him.

Drawing Jam #5

Drawing Jam #5 for Character Design class. We had to take one of our original characters and make a timeline for them. However, a lot of us in the class decided that we wanted to draw ourselves. So here's my timeline! My favourites are 5-year-old me and 80-year-old me.

Drawing Jam #4

Drawing Jam #3 for Character Design class. We had to take Alan Rickman and turn him into either a koala or a toucan. I chose koala.

Winsor McCay Style

For Animation History class we got to do a piece of artwork inspired by the great Winsor McCay. If you do not know who he is I strongly suggest looking him up, especially if you are interested in art. This is Nemo riding Gertie the Dinosaur through space. They are two of his most famous characters, and this is what I imagine would happen if they would ever meet. Overall, I had a great time working on this assignment.

Anthro Duo

For Character Design class we had to make an anthropomorphic duo. Typically, they are side characters, friends, and comic relief. This is Al and Vinnie. They are 1920s gangsters, but they are really bad at it. They sometimes bicker, but generally get along on their wild schemes to succeed and impress. I had a lot of fun with these two.

Life drawing

 

This is a five minute drawing that I did of our lovely model. I particularly like her torso and legs and her sense of form and weight. Done on October 16, 2013.

Foot studies

In life drawing we are currently studying the legs and feet and the bones that help construct them. These are a series of two minute sketches that we did to better understand the feet and demonstrate comparative anatomy.

Exploration #1

 

For our Character Design class our wonderful teacher is getting us to complete exercises from a book called How to be an Explorer of the World. This is for Exploration #1: Right where you are sitting. The exercise was to write ten things about where I was sitting that I hadn't noticed when I sat down. The entire class did this one and later shared our findings. Some of the answers were very interesting. COMPLETED

Exploration #34

For our Character Design class our wonderful teacher is getting us to complete exercises from a book called How to be an Explorer of the World. This photo is for Exploration #34: Interesting garbage. The objective was to collect thirty pieces of garbage that you find interesting. I collected 42 before I posted this. The vast majority of my collection I found while walking around town on my daily routines. Also, I notice that bright colours tend to catch my eye. I like the rainbow that it makes. COMPLETED

Exploration #37

For our Character Design class our wonderful teacher is getting us to complete exercises from a book called How to be an Explorer of the World. These photos are for Exploration #37: Time observation. I had to come up with a way of documenting time passing from where I was sitting. On Monday afternoons, in the classroom where we go, the windows are covered in black sheets. However, a tiny prick was in one and around 1:30pm the sun hits it at an angle which causes this ellipse of light to travel across the table where I am. I was surprised at how fast it moved. COMPLETED

Exploration #4

For our Character Design class our wonderful teacher is getting us to complete exercises from a book called How to be an Explorer of the World. This photo is for Exploration #4: Daily walk. The objective was to collect objects on your daily walk to, in my case, school. The book said to collect thirty and I have 31 here so I think I did pretty well. COMPLETED

For Character Design class we had to make a hero and a villain. This is my villain, Cassandra. She is a gorgon and lives in Greece. I went through many ideas to get to this one, and I had a lot of trouble with it.

For Character Design class we had to make a hero and a villain. This is my hero, Linus. He is a satyr and lives in Greece. I went through many ideas to get to this one but in the end I am very proud of how this turned out.

Bouncing Ball

 

My second animation for school. The guidelines for this assignment were to make a ball bounce into a one-point perspective room through an opening, and the room needed to have a two-point perspective box in it. I enjoyed this project.

Pendulum

My first animation for a project at school. The task was to animate a simple pendulum swinging back and forth with a clock overlay. 

 

25 Expressions Challenge

Our third Drawing Jam for Character Design class was a 25 expression challenge for one of the characters that we created this year so far. I chose my hero, Linus (more of him will be posted in the coming days).

Movement in Life Drawing

 

 

Since I am in school for animation, and my current life drawing instructor was an animator, we are focusing on aspects of that while learning this term. This exercise specifically was a lot of fun: the model did a certain motion continuously for 3 minutes and we drew her at the keys (extremes) and breakdowns. Focusing on action and arcs in this way is really enjoyable.

Exploration #60

 

For our Character Design class our wonderful teacher is getting us to complete exercises from a book called How to be an Explorer of the World. These photos are for Exploration #60: Neighborhood graffiti. If you own the book you might have noticed that there are only 59 explorations in there, but I had noticed so much graffiti on my daily travels here that I really wanted to make my own exploration. I enjoy the variety in all of these designs. COMPLETED
